How to add a custom wrap to your Tesla
Tesla Paint Shop lets you put your own wrap on the 3D model of your car, on the car’s screen and in the Tesla app. Here’s how to add one in a few minutes, using the Tesla app or a USB drive.

1. What you need
- A Tesla that supports wraps. Tesla publishes wrap templates for Model 3, Model 3 (2024+ Highland), Model Y, Model Y (2025+ Juniper), Model Y L, Model S (2021+), Model X (2021+) and Cybertruck.
- Up-to-date car software that has the Wraps tab in Toybox → Paint Shop.
- The Tesla app, version 4.59.0 or later, or a USB drive.
- A wrap PNG made for your exact model. Each model and generation has its own template, so a wrap for one won’t line up on another.
2. Get a wrap for your car
Every TeslaSkins wrap is made on Tesla’s official template for its model, so it lines up on your car. You can preview each one in 3D before you download it.
- Browse all wraps, or go straight to Model 3 wraps or Model Y wraps.
- Want to try it first? Grab one of our free Tesla wraps.
- Or design your own wrap in the editor, with colours, gradients, patterns, text and your own images.
Make sure you pick your exact car, for example the 2025+ Model Y Juniper Premium rather than the 2020–2024 Model Y.
3. Add it with the Tesla app
This is the quickest way, and you don’t need to be in the car.
- Save the wrap PNG to your phone.
- Open the Tesla app and select your car.
- Go to Creations → Wrap → Upload and pick the PNG.
- Check it on the 3D model, then tap Upload & Apply Wrap.
4. Add it with a USB drive
- Download the wrap PNG to your computer.
- Connect a USB drive to your computer. On Model 3 and Model Y, you can use the drive in the glove box, but keep the files already on it.
- The drive must be formatted as exFAT, FAT32 (MS-DOS FAT on a Mac), ext3 or ext4. NTFS isn’t supported.
- Create a folder called
Wrapsat the top level of the drive, and copy the PNG into it. - Make sure the drive doesn’t have map or software update files on it.
- Plug the drive into your car while it’s parked.
5. Apply and switch wraps
In the car, open Toybox → Paint Shop → Wraps. Your wraps appear there, and you can switch between them or go back to your paint colour at any time.
6. File requirements
| Format | PNG |
|---|---|
| Size | 512 × 512 to 1024 × 1024 pixels. Use the template size for best results. |
| File size | No larger than 1 MB |
| File name | Up to 30 characters, using only letters, numbers, spaces, dashes and underscores |
| How many | Up to 10 from the Tesla app and up to 10 from a USB drive |
TeslaSkins wraps are made to these requirements, so they work straight away.
7. If your wrap doesn’t show
- Not in the Wraps tab? Check the file is a PNG under 1 MB and its name follows the rules above.
- Using USB? Check the folder is called exactly
Wraps, sits at the top level of the drive, and the drive isn’t NTFS. Remove any map or software update files. - Can’t see Creations in the app? Update the Tesla app to version 4.59.0 or later, and the car to the latest software.
- Looks misaligned on the car? The wrap was made for a different model or generation. Download the version for your exact car.
Tesla’s own instructions and templates are on Tesla’s custom wraps page on GitHub.
8. Questions
Does a wrap change the real paint on my car?
No. A custom wrap is a digital image. It changes how your car looks on its screen and in the Tesla app, not the real paint.
Which Teslas support custom wraps?
Tesla publishes templates for Model 3, Model 3 (2024+), Model Y, Model Y (2025+), Model Y L, Model S (2021+), Model X (2021+) and Cybertruck. TeslaSkins currently has wraps for Model 3 and Model Y.
Can I make my own Tesla wrap?
Yes. The TeslaSkins editor is free to try. It puts your design on Tesla’s template for your car and shows it on a 3D model as you go.
Is TeslaSkins made by Tesla?
No. TeslaSkins is independent and isn’t affiliated with Tesla, Inc. The Paint Shop wrap feature belongs to Tesla, which decides which cars and software versions support it.
