GUIDE

Tesla Paint Shop: custom wraps and skins explained

1. What Tesla Paint Shop is

Paint Shop lets you restyle the 3D model of your car that you see on the touchscreen and in the Tesla app. You can try a different paint colour, and on cars that support it you can apply a wrap: a full image that covers the body panels, like a digital vinyl wrap.

People also call these Tesla skins. It’s the same thing: a PNG image laid out on Tesla’s wrap template for your model, which the car folds around its 3D body.

Nothing changes on the real car. Paint Shop is purely visual, which is why you can switch wraps as often as you like.

2. Where to find it

  1. On the touchscreen, open the Toybox (the app launcher icon, then Toybox).
  2. Tap Paint Shop.
  3. Choose the Wraps tab to see your custom wraps, or the colour options to change the paint.

Wraps you add from your phone appear in the Tesla app under Creations → Wrap. If you don’t see the Wraps tab, update the car to the latest software and the Tesla app to version 4.59.0 or later.

3. Which Teslas have Paint Shop wraps

Tesla publishes official wrap templates for these cars:

Each model and generation has its own template. A wrap made for one won’t line up on another, so always pick the version for your exact car. You can download every template from our Tesla wrap templates page.

4. How custom wraps work

A Paint Shop wrap is a single square PNG. Tesla’s template shows where each body panel sits in that square: the bonnet, roof, doors, wings, bumpers and boot. Whatever you paint inside a panel’s outline appears on that panel in 3D.

To add one, upload it in the Tesla app or copy it to a folder called Wraps on a USB drive. Our step-by-step install guide covers both, with fixes if a wrap doesn’t show.

5. Where to get Paint Shop wraps

TeslaSkins has a growing library of ready-made wraps, every one made on Tesla’s official template and previewed on the car in 3D before you download it.

6. Design your own Paint Shop wrap

You don’t need Photoshop or the template file. The TeslaSkins editor opens on the official template for your exact car and shows your design on a 3D model as you go. Add your own photos, colours, text, patterns and stickers, then download a PNG that’s ready for Paint Shop.

7. Questions

Are Tesla Paint Shop wraps free?

The feature is free and built into the car. Our ready-made wraps are free to download, and you can design your own on the official template.

Does Paint Shop change my car’s real paint?

No. It only changes how the car looks on its screen and in the Tesla app.

Why does my wrap look stretched or misaligned?

It was made on the template for a different model or generation. Download the version for your exact car, for example the 2025+ Model Y Juniper rather than the 2020–2024 Model Y.

Is TeslaSkins made by Tesla?

No. TeslaSkins is independent and isn’t affiliated with Tesla, Inc. Paint Shop belongs to Tesla, which decides which cars and software versions support wraps.
